NOBU: My favorite restaurant

I had dinner at Nobu a few nights ago and it’s consistently been my favorite for years now.  They have locations in Malibu, San Diego, Honolulu, Japan, NY, and London.  I have had the privilege of dining at each restaurant on the West coast, including Honolulu where I first dined.  I tried the “Omakase” menu, where the chef prepares items for you randomly, as well as items not on the menu.  In ’08 after 4 champagne 95’s, an intoxicating, exotic cocktail garnished with an orchid containing Peach Schnapps, Cointreau, Pineapple Puree, Topped With Champagne, 2 bottles of nigori sake, over 10 plates, and $400 later; I had discovered my new favorite restaurant at the Parc Hotel in Waikiki.

The miso cod buttercups with phylo topping are no longer on the menu, but you can still request it.

Last night my boyfriend tried the pomegranate martini, which was a little sweet.  I decided on a stiffer drink, the Matsuhisa martini, which included Krome Vodka, Hokusetsu Sake, ginger, and a cucumber garnish.  After 2 I was quite drunk.  I haven’t been to Nobu in over a year, and it was my boyfriend’s first time, so I was eager for him to try everything, and I completely over ordered.  A nice special I ordered for $50 was the Blue Shrimp (with heads) with asparagus and enoki and shiitake.  It comes in sake on a searing hot stone plate.  A lot of people don’t like shrimp heads.  I admit,  I could care less for the texture.  But the sweet mushy part inside is what’s most delicious.  I never to hesitate to try anything at Nobu, even if I dislike it, because I have learned to like foods I would have never liked such as mushroom, eel and cooked fish.  I was too full for the bottle of sake and desert my friend Tuon (thanx Tuon) comped us.  The chocolate piece with crispies tasted like a crunch bar with ice cream on top.  And the bottle of lychee flavored infused sake was a nice finish.  It seriously was too much!  My corseted Nicole Miller dress that I almost barely could get into in the first place was bursting underneath.  It was so uncomfortable as soon as I got in the car I unzipped my dress.  I was dying to finish what they brought.  I was so full, I woke up in the morning still full. Haha!
